BERMANO Artist Statement
Nestled in the heart of Brooklyn, the Bermano Studio-Gallery is more than just a creative space—it’s a place where art meets purpose. Founded by Joel Berman, known artistically as Bermano, the studio is an active hub of artistic expression.
Born in South Africa, Bermano’s work has reached global icons, having painted for Nelson Mandela, Pope Francis and Princess Charlene of Monaco. But beyond the canvas, his mission is clear: to make a difference. With a deep commitment to giving back, the gallery has donated over $300,000 in ribbon profits, supporting causes like Operation Smile and numerous South African charities.
Operating as both a working studio and a gallery, this Brooklyn space is a reflection of Bermano’s passion—for art, for storytelling, and for impact. We specialize in promoting work from a number of emerging South African artists.
I am fervent in my belief that my paintings are not only beautiful but also valuable. When you invest in a Bermano original, you are acquiring a piece of my heart and vision, a creation that I believe will appreciate in worth and significance over time. Each piece is a testament to the beauty of life and the boundless potential of human creativity.
